I bought a 1 kilo bag of Green Virgin Soap Nuts at the Oldsmar Flea Market in Tampa. It had 3 wash bags inside. The first load I did was sheets and pillow cases. I was amazed at the results. Everything was so soft and didn't really smell like anything, just clean and fresh. I couldn't be happier with all my laundry. I put 5 soap nuts in a bucket and sprayed water in it from the hose. It worked great and i didn't dry the car like normal and it didn't leave water spots. My sinuses feel better since I started using the soap nuts too. Highly recommended.

When we opened it, it stunk. We washed it with dish soap and that didn't help. Then we tried soap nuts. We threw 4 soap nuts in a jar of cold water and shook it up. They made a lot of suds. Then we poured the liquid in the cooler and washed it out, and like magic the cooler smelled fresh & clean. Not even a hint of the bad odor. Unlike what other sellers are saying Green Virgin Soap Nuts work great in all water temperatures. For cold just wash as normal. There is no need to soak the nuts in hot water and then throw the water in the washer. Maybe Green Virgin Soap Nuts are better or maybe they never tried them in cold water and just copied off of each other. Ours work great in cold water. Just like with chemical detergents some stains will need prespotters and whites will come out whiter with bleach. But you will never need fabric softener or dryer sheets again. If you want a scent in your clothes use essential oil. Just sprinkle a few drops on a sock in the dryer. Buy Green Virgin Soap nuts. You'll save money. You'll help clean up the environment. I was a little skeptical. It seemed like a scam when there were no suds at all and it felt like I was doing laundry in just water, but after doing 4 large loads of laundry, including pee'd bedding that usually takes vinegar to get the smell out (i used nothing but the soapnuts), they came out smelling clean. I used the same 5 pieces of soapnuts for all 4 loads. I've also done 4 loads of dishes in the dishwasher using another 5 pieces of soapnuts and the dishes came out clean everytime.

They're not kidding when they say these bags are sturdy. I've used the bag at least 50 times and it's still holding up. It's easy to undo it when it's time to replace the soap nuts also. Much better than the other brand I used first. It was so thin the seam came apart in the first wash! I'm using the other two that came in the set of three for other things. (Jewelry in my suitcase, collectible coins etc.)

There are three BIG things that REALLY trouble me about this brand. And I can safely say that I've used them ALL. At one time, there was not much as far as choices, but FAR better sellers have come on the market. Here's my issues:

1 - Terribly inconsistent quality. I've gotten nice ones and others that I almost threw away. I had to pick human or animal hairs (I think both) and dirt out of one box. One time they were nice, clean and dry, another time they were totally gross and gummy. Obviously they are packaged overseas and quality control is horrible. Guess that's the result of cheap labor and less than clean working conditions. I believe they are also subject to being stored or shipped improperly. That may be why I've gotten such sticky "clumps" of soap nuts at times. Being sealed in cellophane may cause condensation build up. I don't know and I don't really care. I simply won't buy them anymore, have found a much better and reliable seller.

2 - Very UN-"GREEN". The cellophane bags, VERY heavily glossy printed boxes (don't think it is recycled), printed EVERYTHING! I thought soap nuts were a part of the green movement. Carbon footprint is something we look at. ALL my friends share this same sentiment. It's like a slap in the face. We are trying SO hard to live greener lives, and these are packaged like this????? It's like they don't care at all.

3 - RUDE!!!! Terrible, terrible, terrible service!!!! I don't even know if there is a Maggie in this company anymore. My intuition says "No", because whoever the MAN was that I called who referred to himself as the "owner" when I last talked to them spent more time bashing his competition than helping me with my VERY SIMPLE question!!! I was checking out all the main sellers to arrange a larger purchase for my church group. We were just trying to buy them cheaper. In the end, I just hung up on him - and that is not like me AT ALL. He didn't care one bit about what I wanted to know. All he wanted to talk about was why they were the best. I was astonished. Here is a QUOTE that I'll never forget, "We are the largest importer in the entire western hemisphere." LOL!!! Like I cared. My whole group only wanted a good simple price on 25 or 35 pounds. I'm really sorry, but the last time I talked to someone with a tone like this was a beer-bellied used car salesman trying to sell me on a piece of junk. Oh, I REALLY appreciated this "owner" telling me about his 1,000 pound minimum - while still bashing EVERYBODY - and AFTER - YES!!!! - AFTER - I had finally squeezed in all that I was looking for. It was unreal...

I'm giving this company TWO stars for two reasons only. They do sell soap nuts. That's one. There probably is a very cool person named Maggie somewhere that actually DID care about us and our environment. That's TWO - and that one is for her alone. Beyond that - ZIP!

Great work on developing a better product than the commercial detergents out there. Please note that that this is a 5-star by comparison to most "so-called" natural detergents. Seventh Generation should be eating their heart out by comparison. There are simply much better SOAP NUT detergents and other saponin-based products available today that that blow this out of the water. Close, but no cigar - relative ONLY to the "typical" brand detergents being sold today. Other than that, good work.

For the review that complained that she did a load a few days later w/ the same nuts there is a reason they smelled. You are suppose to do the loads all in one day and then compost the soapnuts.

Here is the equation:
"For a cold water wash, use 3-5 shells and re-use up to four times in the same day. For a warm water wash, use 2-3 shells and re-use up to two times in the same day.

The shells are same-day reuseable -- once the shells have been moistened, they begin to naturally break down. If the moist shells are kept for use on a subsequent day, you may find that they have become moldy. Discard the shells in your garden mulch pile."

Soap Nuts have become a necessity in my household. Due to severe reactions to man-made products of all ilk, I found Soap Nuts to be the perfect replacement. I have stained my clothes with beet juice, carrots, grass stains, and even soot and it gets rid of it all on it's own!
